America's wealthiest and poorest states
Inflation and rising interest rates have slowed the United States' recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and hampered the benefits of emergency federal aid to individuals, businesses, and government agencies.
Inflation and rising interest rates have hampered the United States' recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. When the economy began to slow, the federal government stepped in with emergency aid to help individuals, businesses, and government agencies.
However, as that resource dwindles, a more ominous picture emerges. Both the poverty rate and the income gap between the rich and the poor grew significantly between 2020 and 2021. And workers saw a decline in their income and purchasing power.
Stacker studied the national and state economies, as well as the District of Columbia C, based on data from the most recent 1-Year American Community Survey, which will be available in September 2022 from the Census Bureau, to rank them by 2021 median household income. Facts and figures on poverty, health insurance coverage, and joblessness are also included in the analysis.
A look at the median earnings data shows significant gender gaps. The Census, on the other hand, collects data with a binary understanding of sex and gender, ignoring the existence of other gender identities and possibly leading to the conflation of sexes.
