The State Parks in Kentucky have been commended as the best throughout America and attract more repeat customers than any other state. This is due to Kentucky's diverse geography, which offers a wide range of environments to explore. From mountain lakes, vast caves, to wildlife-filled forests, visitors can select their preferred attractions. Moreover, all parks are within a reasonable day's drive of each other.

Unless stated otherwise, the data listed below has been extracted from Bill Bailey's publication, Kentucky State Parks.

It is worth noting that even though the Kentucky Horse Park is under the Commonwealth's ownership, it is run independently from the Parks Department. Additionally, the Breaks Interstate Park is separate and is administered through an interstate compact alongside the Virginia government, in collaboration with both states' parks departments.

State Recreational Parks

Kentucky has 24 recreational parks scattered throughout the state, extending from Columbus to Pikeville. Each of these parks provides outdoor camping opportunities with an array of outdoor activities to engage in.
